Celtic might not have signed any high-profile players in the summer, but initial rumours had suggested that they were going to. The Hoops had been linked with some big names as well although ultimately, none of them ended up materialising. Let’s see if the situation changes in future transfer windows.
One of the players Celtic were linked with late on in the recent summer transfer window is Eric Dier. The Tottenham Hotspur veteran’s future is in question as he seems to be completely out of Ange Postecoglou’s plans at the London club.
Dier is yet to play a single minute of football. He has made some progress in that he is now on the bench, while he was being completely left out of the matchday squads earlier in the campaign.
Dier is not expected to be happy though and is expected to leave in January, even if on loan. With EURO 2024 coming up, he needs to be playing regular football if he is to have any chance of making the England squad. Celtic have been named as a potential destination but it looks like his future could lie in the Italian capital instead.
Celtic-linked player could join Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma
As reported by Football Insider, Dier is likely to seriously consider a reunion with Mourinho at AS Roma if their reported interest does end up materialising. He has been linked with a potential move to the Serie A club lately.
Of course, Mourinho has already worked with Dier in the past from their time together at Tottenham Hotspur. Now, let’s see if a reunion in the future is on the cards.
It is also worth pointing out that Mourinho’s own future is not certain at the moment. AS Roma have made a shaky start to the season and if things don’t improve, it would not be a surprise to see the legendary Portuguese manager depart.
