It remains to be seen who the next manager of the Rangers will be. The Ibrox club recently decided to part ways with Michael Beale after a bad start to the campaign that left them seven points behind Celtic in the league after just the first seven games. As a result, they now begin their search for a fourth head coach within the space of two years.

One of the names that seems to be emerging as one of the favourites for the Rangers job is Frank Lampard. The Chelsea legend is a free agent now.

His last job was at Chelsea as their caretaker manager last season, a run that produced a solitary win from eleven matches. He has also had a full-time role as the Blues’ manager in the past and has also managed Everton and Derby County.

It remains to be seen if the Rangers do end up going for Lampard. Of course, it would be pretty similar to their appointment of Steven Gerrard, except the Chelsea legend does have a bit more experience in the bag.

Rangers sent Celtic message amid Lampard talk

As reported by the Daily Record, Simon Jordan said while talking on talkSPORT:

"“I think he’ll be very lucky (to get the Rangers job).“I’m talking from Rangers’ perspective, if I’m Rangers I’m looking at what fixes it for me. I’m not looking at redemption for somebody who can learn on the job. The answer to the question is do we think Frank Lampard in the dugout overcomes Brendan Rodgers at Celtic.”"

Of course, Lampard has had an underwhelming career as a manager till now, especially when compared to how great of a player he was. After his recent runs at Everton and Chelsea, he needs to rebuild his reputation and might view Ibrox as a good place to do that. Could he compete with Celtic though?

Well, a long list of Rangers managers have tried over the last decade and nobody has really succeeded. Also, with the club’s recent loss in the Europa League against Aris Limassol, the pressure is increasing on the Ibrox board to make an appointment quickly. Of course, that makes mistakes more likely.
