It would be safe to say that Celtic have not had the best of luck when it comes to VAR. There have been numerous times in the past when they have come at the wrong end of things because of the technology and that run continued in their 2-1 defeat to Lazio in the Champions League at Parkhead.

For all intents and purposes, Celtic should have won this game. They dominated it for the most part. Not only should have scored more goals but the two that they conceded could have been easily avoided. That has been the story of the Hoops in Europe though.

They were not helped by VAR. Of course, the goal from Luis Palma that was ruled out will grab most of the headlines. It had looked like the summer signing had found a winner for Celtic late on in the game only for it to be ruled out for offside and rightfully so.

There was another incident though which was not reviewed by VAR. And it probably should have, as it could have ended with a potential red card for Lazio.

As reported by Football Scotland, Reo Hatate went down under a challenge from Elseid Hysaj. It looked like he had been struck with the Lazio defender’s arm. And it was an incident that VAR probably should have taken another look at.

Many Celtic fans feel that it should have been a red card. But if not, at least it should have ended with Hysaf receiving a booking.

It could have ended up changing the entire match. But at the end of the day, Celtic have to take a lot of responsibility for this result as well. They should have won and instead, they grabbed defeat from the jaws of victory again.
