Celtic will need to sign a new goalkeeper in the near future. In fact, they were expected to bring in someone to challenge Joe Hart for the first-team gloves this summer and there were links with Croatian number one Dominik Livakovic. Ultimately, it led nowhere though and the Hoops did not strengthen their ranks between the posts.

Hart has done a very good job since he was signed from Tottenham Hotspur in 2021. There were a lot of doubters back then, with many believing that his days as a first-choice goalkeeper were past him.

Hart has spent the last two seasons as Celtic’s number one and helped them to five trophies, proving the doubters wrong along the way. He deserves credit for that and it looks like he will complete a third season as the club’s first choice between the posts.

It is hard to imagine him being handed a contract extension though, as he will be 37 years of age by the time this campaign ends. Hart is in the final year of his current deal. Thus, Celtic will need to sign a new goalkeeper. Neither Scott Bain nor Benjamin Siegrist appear to be the one to take the first-team gloves next.

Caoimhin Kelleher is someone who has been heavily linked with a move to Celtic recently. As reported by GIVEMESPORT, Dean Jones said:

"“Hart’s commitment and his passion and his professionalism can’t really be doubted, but obviously he is in the twilight years of his career and Celtic have to think about what happens next for them in that area, especially given how things had been recently with him. Kelleher keeps being linked and I think that he’s a great profile for them. I could totally see a signing like that actually fitting the bill.”"

Kelleher is believed to be rated a transfer value of around £20 million. It is not only unlikely but pretty much impossible for Celtic to shell out a figure of that magnitude for the Liverpool goalkeeper, despite his undeniable quality.

Kelleher will have only a couple of years left on his contract next summer though. And with him struggling for game time, it is very possible that he could push for an exit. If that was the case, the goalkeeper could be available for a bargain transfer fee.
