Favourite named for Rangers job as Celtic race ahead
Celtic have a four-point lead in the Premiership over second-placed St Mirren and seven points ahead of the Rangers. The Hoops seem to be showing no signs of slowing down both on and off the pitch though. The situation is very different when it comes to Ibrox. They find themselves without a manager for the third time within the space of less than two years.
Michael Beale arrived surrounded by a lot of hype and was viewed as ‘The Chosen One’ by many of the Rangers’ supporters. But his time at Ibrox proved to be a major disappointment. No trophies, struggling summer signings and a seven-point gap with Celtic are what the manager leaves the club to deal with.
Who will be the next manager to take the Ibrox hot seat? Kevin Muscat has emerged as the bookies’ favourite for the job. Other names like Graham Potter, Kjetil Knutsen and Jesse Marsch are in the running as well.
It remains to be seen who the Ibrox club end up appointing. Whoever it is, will have a big task on his hands. Celtic have won 11 of the last 12 league titles and it will take a Herculean effort from the Rangers to stop a 12th.
Favourite named for Rangers job, Celtic race ahead
Of course, Celtic’s plans for the present in the future do not seem to be stopping for a second. It looks like they are already planning contract talks.
The club have already handed new deals to Kyogo, Callum McGregor, Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate, Matt O’Riley, Liel Abada, Stephen Welsh and Anthony Ralston. Now, rumours have emerged that they will look to do the same with Greg Taylor and Cameron Carter-Vickers.
Let’s see how the rest of the season unfolds and who the Rangers end up appointing. For now, Celtic seem to be firmly on top.
