Rangers find themselves without a manager once again. This has not been an uncommon situation for them in recent years, to be honest. Whoever arrives next will be their fourth head coach in less than two years. During that period of time, they have won one trophy compared to Celtic’s five.

Of course, there will be a lot of hype surrounding whoever is their next manager. And a lot of expectations will be placed on his shoulders as well.

That was the case with Michael Beale as well. In fact, he was hailed as the ‘mastermind’ who helped guide the Rangers to their league triumph in the 2020/21 campaign, when he was working as part of Steven Gerrard’s coaching staff.

On top of that, he had left QPR to join the Rangers. Thus, many of their fans believed that he was the man to guide them back to the top. Reality proved to be quite different. Beale was shown the exit door less than a year after his arrival, won no trophies during his time at Ibrox and left behind a 7-point deficit for their next manager to deal with.

Some past comments have gone viral as well. As reported by BBC, back in April, his assistant, Neil Banfield, said about Beale:

"“You can see where he is going, his trajectory.“You talk about Julian Nagelsmann, Thomas Tuchel and Mauricio Pochettino. Micky Beale is not far off that, let me tell you.“The way that he operates, structures the club and works with his staff. He has first-class qualities all the way through. He reminds me very much of Arsene Wenger.”"

It would be safe to say that things have not gone according to expectations. Celtic fans’ reactions to those comments on social media have been as expected though.

Banfield worked as part of Wenger’s coaching staff at Arsenal. The Frenchman had a 22-year run at one of the biggest Premier League clubs and won numerous trophies. Beale did not last one at Ibrox.

As for Nagerlsmann, Tuchel and Pochettino, they find themselves in charge of the German national team, Bayern Munich and Chelsea respectively. It remains to be seen where Beale ends up after the Rangers.
