Celtic have been on a bit of a roll lately. After a stumbling start to the season, their results and performances have certainly improved, as the players seem to be coming to grips with Brendan Rodgers’ system of football. On the other hand, a number of them have been committing their futures to the club as well.

A number of times in the past, we have seen the club allow key players to run down their contracts. As a result, they have little choice but to let them go for a bargain transfer fee when they have a year or so left on their deal.

The Hoops seem to have learned from their mistakes of the past. And they have been handing out new deals left, right and centre.

Yesterday, they announced the contract extensions of Reo Hatate and Mitchel Frame. And now, a third announcement has been made in quick succession.

As reported by the club’s official website, Matt O’Riley has become the latest player to commit his future to Celtic. He has signed a new four-year deal which will see him remain at Parkhead until 2027.

The club had already agreed new deals with the likes of Kyogo, Callum McGregor, Daizen Maeda, Liel Abada, Stephen Welsh and Anthony Ralston. The next two players that most fans wanted to see being handed new deals were Hatate and O’Riley.

Celtic have managed to agree extensions with not one but both of them. This is even more impressive when you consider how heavily they have been linked with a move away in recent times.

Hatate and O’Riley are two of the best players Celtic have currently. The Japanese midfielder had a rough start to the season but seems to be returning to form. The Danish youth international appears to have taken his game up a level since the arrival of Brendan Rodgers.
