Celtic might be dealing with a lot of injuries at this point in time but when everybody is back fit and available, they will have a very deep roster. So, a challenge for Brendan Rodgers would be to make sure that he gives enough playing time to everyone. And if there is one thing we have learned over the past few months, it is that everybody is starting on a clean slate under the Northern Irish manager.

That is the reason why Stephen Welsh was handed a long-term contract in the summer when his leaving for good seemed much more likely before the arrival of Rodgers. On the other hand, Liam Scales was handed a chance as well and he has taken it with both hands. On current form, he might be one of the undroppable in this team.

Another player who seems to be making small strides in recent games is Tomoki Iwata. And he might now be a part of Rodgers’ plans as well, albeit as part of the rotation.

Iwata is ready to play in a number of positions for the club and not just in the middle of the park. As reported by the Daily Record, he said:

"“If I can pitch in as a midfielder, I feel like I’ll be able to match up with the opponent’s key players more often and have more opportunities to show off. However, my strength is also that I can play a wide range of positions as a midfielder, wing back and centre-back.“During my time at Marinos, I contributed to the team by playing a variety of roles and won titles. In the same way, in the current environment, I just have to do my best every day.”"

Iwata was signed earlier this year and while he was not a starter under the management of Ange Postecoglou, he did play a decent amount of football towards the end of last season. And it is about him taking the next step.

It is worth pointing out that Iwata was one of the best players in the J-League before he arrived at Celtic. Thus, there is a lot of potential in him that Celtic have not been able to take advantage of yet.

Now, it is up to Rodgers to find the best role for Iwata. Whether that be in midfield, defence or the flanks.
