Celtic stumbled out of the gates this season but they have found some form lately. They have kept four straight clean sheets in the league and sit atop the Premiership table, bouncing back nicely after their early elimination from the Scottish League Cup. They did lose their Champions League group stage opener against Feyenoord away in the Netherlands in a game in which they saw two red cards.

There are a few players who seem to have improved following the arrival of Brendan Rodgers as manager. One of them is Matt O’Riley.

O’Riley was in and out of the starting XI last season, competing with Aaron Mooy for a spot. This time around, he seems to have taken a step forward and added goals to his game. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 4 goals and provided 2 assists in 8 appearances in this campaign till now.

That kind of form would have surely caught the eye of clubs around Europe, many of whom have already been linked with O’Riley. On the other hand, the Hoops seem to be planning on extending his stay in Glasgow.

As tweeted out by Anthony Joseph, O’Riley is still in talks over a new deal. Also, Denmark are seriously considering promoting the Celtic midfielder to the senior team for the October international break.

Of course, if O’Riley is promoted to the Denmark senior squad, it would serve as further proof that Celtic is the right place for him to continue his development. Working with Rodgers has clearly helped in such a short span of time. One can only wonder how good he can get if he is here for a season or two more.

There is very little doubt that O’Riley will get a move away sooner or later. Fans can only hope that he is at Parkhead for the foreseeable future.
