There are many outstanding questions about the way Jota’s transfer from Celtic to Al-Ittihad has worked out. It may have secured a mega contract for the Portuguese winger, but in playing terms, it appears to be turning into a nightmare. He seems to be out of first-team plans already and his future is in doubt just months after the move.

It was a bit of a surprise when Al-Ittihad completed the signing of Jota. It seemed that on the whole Celtic had a decent deal receiving a transfer package of around £25 million. Significantly more than what they had shelled out to sign him from Benfica just last summer.

Jota must have surely been excited about the move too and the chance to play alongside the likes of Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante. Since then, things have fallen apart for the winger.

It looks like he has not been registered by his new club for the league, which keeps him out of matchday squads. Hopefully, things will take a turn for the better soon.

As reported by Asharq Al-Awsat (via Football Scotland), the decision-makers at Al-Ittihad are hoping to discover what went wrong and why the deal has failed so quickly.

Hopefully, we will all get to understand better the scenario Jota faces and the reasons behind it. For Celtic fans there still remains the hope that he could yet return to the club, even if only on a temporary basis. His flair and hard work would definitely be a great addition to the squad.

That being said, Celtic did sign multiple wingers in the summer. Bringing back Jota might have a detrimental effect on their developmental and first-team chances. So, their form and performances until January could prove to be a determining factor in any potential move.
