Jota left Celtic in the summer, somewhat out of the blue, in order to join Al-Ittihad. It was one of the biggest transfers in Scottish football history. While the Hoops did pocket a significant transfer fee, they did also lose one of their most important players and the absence of the Portuguese winger has been clearly visible this season.

On the other hand, things have not gone as Jota would have expected either. He already seems to be out of first-team plans at Al-Ittihad.

Unsurprisingly, there have been rumours of a potential return to Celtic in January. Is it really on the cards though?

As reported by Football Scotland, Celtic have made no approach to try and bring Jota back to the club. The Scottish champions are not considering a move to re-sign him on loan.

That is certainly a curious stance on the part of Celtic. Jota is proven at the club and has shown the ability to not only score and assist but also to rise to the occasion. He has scored in Glasgow Derbies, Cup finals and even against Real Madrid away at the Santiago Bernabeu.

If Jota did make a return to Celtic, the squad would be considerably strengthened significantly. Of course, it is hard to imagine that the Hoops would be willing to shell out a significant transfer fee to bring him back to Glasgow. But a loan move would make sense for all parties involved.

Things change very quickly in football though and the January transfer window is still quite a few months away. So let’s see how things evolve over the course of the season. A lot will depend on how the likes of Luis Palma, Yang Hyun-jun and Marco Tilio, the three wingers signed in the summer, do too.
