Brendan Rodgers did not sound happy with some of the recent reports that have been doing the rounds of the media in recent days. The Celtic manager was recently asked about whether he was content with the club’s transfer business over the summer and his comments managed to make a lot of headlines.

Understandably so, because Celtic fans have not been particularly happy with the signings that the club over the summer either. But now, Rodgers has come out and clarified what he actually meant by those recent comments.

It looks like Rodgers was making a general statement about managers and their feelings about transfers. And the media might have ended up running with the ball.

As reported by the Daily Record, Rodgers said to BBC Scotland:

"“I will correct you as always there’s always something made out of what managers will say. What I did say was that any manager who goes into a window will always feel at the end of a window they maybe could’ve done a little bit more.“I never said anything else other than that so I’ve been really happy with the boys that have come in. We know the areas that we want to improve in, we know the areas that we have to improve in. You’re never going to do that in one window.“What we aim to do and what we want to do going forward is improve the quality within the squad. That doesn’t mean I’m not happy with the club so I’m pretty sure that people will look at that and focus on that and try to drive a wedge very, very early on between myself and the board.“Whatever stories try to get created around that, they’ll be false. The minute I’m happy here, really happy with everything is the time I probably move on because to drive standards and move things forward you have to have to be looking for more.”"

Rodgers calls out media over Celtic reports

When Rodgers was brought back for a second run as the manager of Celtic, there were a lot of rumours in the media that the club were set for a record-breaking summer transfer window and ready to make some statement additions to the squad with an aim of advancing in the Champions League. None of that ended up materialising over the course of the summer.

Instead, Celtic stuck with their strategy of signing players who are young and have a lot of potential. And that did not make a lot of fans happy, who were waiting for the Hoops to bring in some established names this summer. It remains to be seen whether the new arrivals are able to deliver or not.

One has to admit that Celtic’s lack of experience did let them down in their opening game of the Champions League group stage. Two of their summer signings, Gustaf Lagerbielke and Odin Thiago Holm, ended up with very avoidable red cards, ending any hopes the Scottish champions might have had of getting a result away in the Netherlands against Feyenoord.
