Celtic have been very successful over the past decade or so, winning one trophy after another in domestic competitions. But that does not mean that it has been all smooth sailing for the Hoops. On the contrary, they have had a lot of issues in recent years when it comes to keeping hold of their most talented youngsters, many of whom have preferred to head down south early in their careers.

The most high-profile exit in recent years has been that of Ben Doak. He had made a couple of senior appearances for Celtic at just 16 years of age before deciding that his future lay at Liverpool.

While the move disappointed many Celtic fans, it is good to see that he is already in the first-team picture in Jurgen Klopp’s side. Not only that, but Doak is already making history at Anfield.

He started in their latest Europa League. And as reported by Football Scotland, Doak became Liverpool’s fourth youngest player to feature in Europe.

Doak got an hour of action in his Europa League debut for Liverpool. And one has to admit that he is already overdelivering on expectations.

The general feeling was that Doak would have to go out on a few loan spells first before ever getting a taste of first-team football with Klopp’s team. That has not been the case. He has been involved pretty much from the get-go and is still just 17 years of age at this point in time.

Let’s see what the future holds for Doak. There are doubts about how much longer Mohamed Salah will remain at Liverpool, amid heavy links with a move to Al-Ittihad. If the Egyptian icon does end up leaving then that could open up an opportunity for the former Celtic player to get more minutes.
