The summer additions that Celtic made did raise the eyebrows of a lot of fans. Many had been hoping and expecting for some established and experienced players to be brought in in order to take a step forward in the Champions League and make the second Brendan Rodgers reign just as successful as the last one. Instead, the club stuck to making ‘project’ signings.

Now, there is nothing wrong with signing highly-rated youngsters. On the contrary, the strategy has served them quite well in recent years.

Jota, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Reo Hatate, Matt O’Riley, Daizen Maeda and many others would have been considered as ‘project’ signings when they were brought in. And it did not take them long to establish themselves as key parts of the team.

But on the other hand, there are many who might not be ready to make an impact on the first-team. So, it is about finding the right balance. Celtic might not have done that over the summer.

One summer signing we are yet to see in action is Marco Tilio. He has been dealing with a fitness issue since he arrived. And even when he is back available, he might have a tough time getting into the team.

As reported by Football Insider, Frank McAvennie said:

"“Apparently Tilio is way down the pecking order.“You have got players there like [Daizen] Maeda as well as new signing [Luis] Palma so I think Tilio is for the future.“There is loads of competition in that area of the pitch so Celtic are just going to get better.“"

It will be interesting to see how much playing time Tilio gets when he is back available for selection. Liel Abada’s recent injury could make it a little easier for him to get into the team.

Of course, it would be a major mistake to rule out Tilio before he gets a proper chance to show what he is capable of. He is considered one of the biggest talents in Australian football and earned comparisons with Phil Foden for his playing style while in the A-League.
