When Ange Postecoglou was appointed as the manager of Celtic, it was not a popular decision. For months, the club had been linked with a move for Eddie Howe. That failed to materialise and the Hoops quickly got a deal done for the relatively unknown Australian instead. Naturally, there were doubts about whether he could get the job done in Glasgow, having never managed a top-flight European team before.

Postecoglou proved he was up to the task and then some during his two years as Celtic manager. The club won five trophies under his management, as the Australian over-delivered on all expectations that were there when the appointment was made.

His successes in Glasgow earned him a move to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer. Of course, Celtic fans were disappointed to see Postecoglou go just days after winning the treble. But at the same time, most people understood the decision and wished him well.

Postecoglou has made a flying start to life in the Premier League as Tottenham Hotspur sit second in the table. The Australian will be facing a huge test this weekend though, as his team will take on London rivals Arsenal.

Postecoglou is of course no stranger to footballing rivalries. It does not get much bigger than Celtic and the Rangers.

He shared an amusing story from his time as Celtic manager. As reported by the Daily Record, Postecoglou said while speaking at Tottenham’s fan forum:

"“Being Celtic manager for a couple of years, there was only really one result that the supporters were really interested in.“You got that sense pretty much every time I opened my door. I could tell whether the Amazon guy was a Rangers or Celtic supporter depending on how he delivered the package. He either threw it at me or he wanted a selfie.“I love that, it’s the passion it brings out. People feel like their football club is an extension of their family and want to protect that, and want to make sure every week when we go into battle we come out victors particularly against our rivals.“It’s a great test for us as a group, particularly away from home, looking forward to it. We want to be involved in the big games, overcome the challenges before us.”"

One reason Postecoglou won over the Celtic fans so quickly was because he seemed to understand what it meant to support the club. And it has not taken him long to endear himself to the Tottenham Hotspur supporters either.

Postecoglou’s time at Celtic might not have been long but he did a wonderful job and brought a lot of positivity to the lives of the supporters. We can only wish him the best at Tottenham.
