It is safe to say that Celtic would have been bitterly disappointed with how the game against Feyenoord turned out for them. For a long time, they were very much in the contest and arguably had the better chances to score in the first-half. But things went south at the stroke of half-time when the Dutch side managed to score from a direct free-kick.

That ended up turning the momentum of the match completely in their favour. Celtic would then go on to see two of their players sent off before the hour mark and there was no recovering from that.

There was a lot of discussion about the free-kick that they did concede against Feyenoord. Many felt that it was the wall that was at fault. Kyogo appeared to turn away from the ball.

On the other hand, many others felt that Joe Hart should have done better with the effort. Ultimately, it was perhaps a combination of both failing to do their job properly on that occasion.

As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Thierry Henry said while talking on CBS Sports on Paramount+ (19/09/23 at 10:40 pm):

"“If you could say it was going to sting Celtic, and it did.“I mean, you should never concede a goal like that, keeper.”"

To be fair to Hart, he did appear to see the ball late. And he did redeem himself to a large extent by saving a penalty kick in the second half of the game.

But that was not enough. When the Hoops went down to nine men, there was pretty much no coming back for them. Ultimately, things could have gotten much worse than a 2-0 away defeat to Feyenoord.

That does keep their chances of qualifying for the next round or finishing third alive. In the other Group E game, Lazio and Atletico Madrid drew 1-1 with goalkeeper Ivan Provedel scoring the equaliser for the Italian club in the 95th minute.
