Celtic are set to begin their Champions League group stage journey with the away trip to De Kuip to take on Dutch champions, Feyenoord. It is not going to be an easy task for Brendan Rodgers’ side for sure. Arne Slot’s team showed their quality at the weekend with a 6-1 win over Heerenveen in the Eredivisie.

Thus, Celtic will need to take their A-game to De Kuip. Unfortunately, they are dealing with a number of injury problems at the moment.

Cameron Carter-Vickers, Maik Nawrocki and Stephen Welsh are all out injured. There were doubts regarding the status of Nat Phillips as well, who rolled his ankle against Dundee FC at the weekend and was substituted off at half-time as a result of it.

But there seems to be some good news regarding his status. BeanymanSports3 posted a video on YouTube of Celtic’s training on Monday ahead of their trip to Rotterdam to face Feyenoord in the Champions League. Phillips was involved and appeared to train normally with the squad.

Thus, it looks like Phillips might be in the frame to feature against Feyenoord in midweek. Now, it remains to be seen whether he starts or not.

That has to be a consideration not just because of his fitness issue but also the performance he put in against Dundee FC. Phillips, who is on loan from Liverpool for the first half of the season, seemed rusty and unimpressive.

Perhaps that was to be expected. According to stats from Transfermarkt, Phillips made 5 appearances and played 232 minutes of football for Liverpool last season.

So, it is only natural for him to take some time to shake off the rust and get back to full fitness. But an away Champions League game against Feyenoord might not be the occasion for that.
