Manchester United have never been the same since Sir Alex Ferguson retired. They have brought in many reputed managers since then like David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and more, but nobody has been able to guide them back to the top. Erik ten Hag showed a lot of promise last season but things have not started well this time around as they sit at 13th in the Premier League table and there is speculation about the Dutchman’s future. Could a Celtic hero be their next boss?

It would be quite the journey if Ange Postecoglou ended up managing Manchester United someday, arguably the best-supported club in the world. Two years ago, it was looking like the Australian would never even get the chance to manage a top-flight club in Europe.

All that changed after Postecoglou was appointed as the Celtic manager somewhat out of the blue after a move for Eddie Howe failed to materialise. The Australian has not looked back since, winning five trophies during his two seasons in Glasgow.

That sort of success, and his style of football, led to Tottenham Hotspur appointing him as their manager. And Postecoglou has made a splendid start there as well, as they sit second in the Premier League table and are playing some brilliant football too.

Celtic hero tipped to be next Manchester United manager

As reported by Glasgow Live, Go Radio pundit Barry Ferguson said live on air:

"“Next Man United manager. What did I say at the start of the season? Tottenham to finish top four.“Why would you not if you’re a big club? Look, he’s come down to the best league in the world. He’s come in, he’s lost one of the best forwards in the game in Harry Kane and it’s not affected him one single bit.“They dominated the game at the weekend but that just showed the character and never say die attitude, they go until the 98th or 99th minute of the game. He’s shown that he’s a top manager, let’s be honest.“You think of Man U, back to the great team of Alex Ferguson. Look at the way they played. Really open, attack-minded. It suits the way Postecoglou does it. He’s got a job on his hands at Tottenham but if he continues the way he’s going, I think they would be crazy not to look at him.”"

If there were any remaining doubts about whether Postecoglou could get it done in the Premier League, there should not be anymore. He is just a special manager.

Of course, one would not expect Tottenham Hotspur to be keen to let him leave anytime soon. And let’s see if Ten Hag is able to bring Manchester United’s season back on track.
