Virgil van Dijk is one of the best players Celtic have had in recent memory. When the Dutchman arrived at the club, he was a relatively unknown centre-back. It is remarkable what he has gone on to achieve since then, establishing himself as one of the best defenders in Premier League history and winning every trophy possible with Liverpool. He even came very close to winning the Ballon d’Or a few years ago.

Celtic recently brought in a centre-back on loan from Liverpool for the first half of the season in Nat Phillips. The 26-year-old made his debut for the club this weekend against Dundee FC.

It was not a great performance by any stretch of the imagination as Phillips looked rusty. That was to be expected though considering he has barely played for Liverpool in recent times and was coming back from a fitness issue as well.

Phillips seemed to pick up an issue before half-time and was subbed off at the break. It is not believed to be a serious problem though and he is expected to be available in midweek against Feyenoord.

Phillips seemed to be happy having made his debut for Celtic. He posted a picture on his Instagram accompanied by the caption:

"Delighted to have made my @celticfc debut and proud of the boys for getting the job done. Onto the next 🍀"

His Liverpool teammate and former Celtic player, Van Dijk, commented on the post with a four-leaf clover emoji. The Dutchman has only had positive things to say about the club since he left for Southampton almost a decade back.

It remains to be seen how Phillips’ time at Celtic Park goes. It was not an impressive debut but one would expect him to get better moving forward as he gets some minutes in the tank and shakes off the rust. He is a pretty good player when on form.

More. Celtic starter tipped to be dropped if he does not change. light
