Ange Postecoglou must be loving life in the Premier League. The Australian joined Tottenham Hotspur in the summer amidst a lot of doubts. Many pundits and fans had written him off before he had even managed the team once. As Celtic supporters will know well, he does have a knack for proving people wrong and he has done it once again.
Tottenham Hotspur sit second in the Premier League table. They are scoring for fun and appear to have developed a winning mentality as well.
It had looked like they were destined to lose to Sheffield United this weekend. But then, a 98th-minute equaliser from Richarlison was followed by a 100th-minute winner from Dejan Kulusevski, to grab victory from the jaws of defeat.
It was also Postecoglou’s 50th consecutive home game without a defeat. A run that stretches back to Celtic and it got the Hoops a nod from the Premier League’s official account:
Premier League give nod to Celtic in Postecoglou tweet
Recently, Postecoglou was nominated for FIFA’s The Best Coach award as well and he took that opportunity to pay tribute to Celtic as a football club. The Australian might have departed Glasgow but he remains as classy as ever.
A lot of Celtic fans might have been very disappointed with his exit. The Australian left just days after guiding the side to a domestic treble. But at the same time, it is not hard to understand why he decided to leave.
Postecoglou’s first real chance in Europe came with Celtic. He was already in his mid-50s by that point. So, the Australian does not have a lot of time on his hands to meet all his managerial targets. Going to Tottenham Hotspur might have been his one and only chance to manage a Big Six team in the Premier League. He is making that opportunity count. We can only wish him the best.
