Celtic fans would not be surprised by the start that Ange Postecoglou has made as manager of Tottenham Hotspur. They are looking like a special team at the moment and scored twice late in added time this weekend to grab victory from the jaws of defeat against Sheffield United. As things stand, they are second in the Premier League table, much higher than most pundits predicted going into the season.

Of course, Celtic fans have already seen this movie before. Postecoglou has a bit of a knack for transforming struggling teams into winners.

What might have surprised a lot of fans is the fact that Tottenham Hotspur did not come calling for a few of Celtic’s players over the summer. That could change pretty soon as Daizen Maeda has been linked with a move to the London club recently.

As reported by TEAMtalk, Tottenham Hotspur are exploring the conditions of a move for Maeda and it is believed that Celtic would command a similar type of fee to the one they received when Jota left for Al-Ittihad. That was around £25 million and the Hoops would look to recoup that type of figure, if not even more, for the Japanese international.

Maeda seems to be a particular favourite of Postecoglou. And it is not hard to see why, considering the Japanese forward’s relentless style of play. He might not be a technically brilliant player but he shows nonstop work-rate for the entire 90 minutes.

Yokohama F. Marinos signed Maeda during Postecoglou’s time at the club. He would then join the Australian manager at Celtic. Could his next stop be Tottenham Hotspur?

One has to point out that Maeda has not made a great start to life under the management of Brendan Rodgers. He is yet to score this season and there are question marks about whether he is the right type of player for the Northern Irishman’s brand of football.
