With Ange Postecoglou joining Tottenham Hotspur, Celtic fans were afraid that the Premier League club would try to sign some of their best players. Fortunately, it did not happen in the summer although the likes of Jota and Carl Starfelt did leave regardless. And now, it looks like another of their key stars is being linked with a move away.

One of Postecoglou’s favourites at Parkhead was Daizen Maeda. He had signed him while at Yokohama F. Marinos and then at Celtic as well. Clearly, the Australian rates him highly.

Now, it looks like Postecoglou could potentially be looking to make it three-in-a-row. It remains to be seen what the future holds for Maeda, even though he signed a contract extension with Celtic just recently.

As reported by TEAMtalk, Tottenham Hotspur are understood to be keeping tabs on Maeda. Another player who can play wide is being eyed by the Premier League club ahead of the January transfer window.

Celtic did agree a new contract extension with Maeda not too long ago. Thus, they will be under no real pressure to let him go anytime soon.

At the same time, if there is one thing we know about Celtic, it is that they will happily part ways with a player if the right offer is on the table. And in the case of Maeda, one would think that he would be attracted by the proposition of playing for a club like Tottenham Hotspur as well.

If Tottenham Hotspur did make a move for Maeda in the January transfer window, it is not difficult to see the move happening. He remains a starter for Celtic but at the same time, there are doubts about whether he can thrive in Brendan Rodgers’ system like he did under the management of Postecoglou. The Japanese forward is yet to score this season.
