Celtic did a tremendous job at Ibrox, getting a 1-0 win over the Rangers. They had gone into the game as underdogs, on the back of a defeat to Kilmarnock and a goalless draw against St Johnstone. But on the big occasion they delivered. The defence kept a clean sheet while Kyogo Furuhashi scored a superb goal from distance to hand Brendan Rodgers’ side all three points and take some pressure off his shoulders.
One man who must certainly be feeling the pressure now is Michael Beale. There have already been rumours that the Rangers are looking at potential replacements for him.
Beale has a terrible record in the Glasgow Derby. Under his management, a run which started in November of last year, the Rangers have won only once against Celtic. Even that was a match with nothing riding on the result, as the Hoops had already won the league mathematically.
Amidst all this, Beale criticised the officiating recently. As reported by the Daily Record, the Rangers manager said:
"“Kemar Roofe has played the last two or three.“He would have two in two if the officials would’ve done their job correctly in the last game so he’s in a really good place at the moment.”"
Beale takes public dig about defeat to Celtic
Of course, Roofe had put the ball into the back of the net against Celtic in their recent meeting at Ibrox. But it was disallowed after a VAR check, for a foul on Gustaf Lagerbielke in the buildup to the goal.
Unsurprisingly, the Rangers fans were not happy with the decision and it looks like Beale was not either. When it comes to Celtic supporters, they certainly felt that there was a foul in the buildup and the decision was the right one.
Of course, if Rangers fans want to criticise officiating, maybe they could take a look at some of the decisions that went their way last season. Also, it is hard to remember the last time the Ibrox club conceded a penalty.
