Ange Postecoglou makes classy Celtic claim after FIFA Best nomination
Ange Postecoglou left Celtic just days after winning the treble with them in order to join Tottenham Hotspur. It is a decision that did not go down too well with a lot of fans but as the days have passed and things have settled down, most recognise the choice the Australian made and why.
He is 57 years of age and he was not even managing in Europe just a couple of years ago. This was probably going to be his one and only opportunity to manage a Big Six club in the Premier League.
Postecoglou has gone to Tottenham Hotspur and the Premier League exactly what he is capable of. He has guided them to a fantastic start to the campaign, as they sit second in the table, only behind Manchester City.
Postecoglou’s achievements at Celtic have earned him recognition as well and he was recently nominated for The Best FIFA Men’s Coach award. The other nominees are Pep Guardiola, Simone Inzaghi, Luciano Spalletti and Xavi. Fans can vote on the official website.
Postecoglou makes classy Celtic claim after FIFA Best nomination
Postecoglou paid a classy tribute to Celtic following his nomination. As reported by Football Scotland, he said:
"“Yeah, for the FIFA nomination I’m fairly humbled. But I’m just pleased that it’s recognition for a great group of people that I worked with, staff and players and everyone involved at Celtic, the fans.“It’s just great recognition for the club. It’s a great club and sometimes its achievements get diminished because people sort of look down on the league. But I think anytime you win a treble – we did that last year in the best possible manner, we won the league and beat Rangers in both the cups, it wasn’t easy in any stretch.“And I just think it’s great recognition for the football club. I’m just the frontman but I’m really pleased that the football club gets the recognition it deserves.”"
Postecoglou is certainly a class act and it is one of the biggest reasons why he became such a fan favourite at Celtic, and now at Tottenham Hotspur. It might have taken him a long time but he is finally being recognised as one of the top managers in the game. He deserves nothing less and we can only wish him success moving forward.
At the same time, it is important for Celtic to look towards the future. This is Brendan Rodgers’ team now. After an underwhelming start to the season, they got themselves a confidence-boosting win at Ibrox and will hopefully build on that result moving forward.
