Celtic have had terrible luck with injuries this season already. The likes of Cameron Carter-Vickers, Maik Nawrocki and Stephen Welsh are out for the foreseeable future with medium to long-term issues. And now, it looks like another key player could be set to join, in a major blow for Brendan Rodgers’ side.
The Glasgow Derby win might have lifted the mood around Parkhead. But the fact of the matter is that their start to the season has not been great.
One of the better players has been Liel Abada, who seems to have taken a step forward since the arrival of Rodgers as manager. He was struggling for starts under the management of Ange Postecoglou and was expected to leave this summer.
Things have taken a U-turn for Abada at Celtic though. And he recently signed a long-term contract extension with the Hoops, something that would have seemed impossible even a few months. Unfortunately, we might not see him back on the pitch anytime soon.
Key Celtic player could be out for rest of 2023 with injury
Abada picked up an injury while away on international duty with the Israel national team. And now, it looks like he could be set for an extended spell on the sidelines due to it.
As reported by the Daily Record, new reports in his homeland suggest that Abada will undergo another scan and could be out for up to five months. The winger might not return until February or March of next year if the worst-case scenario comes to pass.
That is the last thing that Celtic would have wanted to hear, just when they were looking to build up some momentum on the back of their win at Ibrox. The Hoops fans will be hoping that the issue is not as serious as feared and Abada is back available soon.
