Brendan Rodgers’ return to Celtic Park has been up-and-down till now. The Hoops made a questionable start to the season for sure and are already out of the Scottish League Cup. But then, the win over the Rangers away at Ibrox has settled a lot of nerves and convinced the doubters that the Northern Irishman is the man for the Parkhead job.
There is one player who has yet to play a minute of football for the senior team this season despite his incredible form for the B Team. And Rodgers might be making a major mistake by not giving him chances to show what he is capable of.
The player in question is none other than Rocco Vata. The Irish youth international has been a standout for Celtic B this season. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 7 goals in 6 appearances for them.
Vata scored a brace for the Ireland Under-21 side during this international break. And it is time that he is given his chance for Celtic’s senior team.
Rodgers making a mistake not playing Celtic ace
One thing that Celtic have lacked in recent weeks is goals. They have only managed to score once over the previous three games. Thankfully, that one proved to be the winner against the Rangers in the Glasgow Derby.
But still, it is quite clear that Celtic need to be scoring a lot more frequently if they are to have a successful season. Vata certainly knows his way to the back of the net.
Vata did make a few first-team appearances under the management of Ange Postecoglou. Since the arrival of Rodgers, he has not even made the bench. That needs to change.
It is unsurprising that there are question marks over Vata’s future already, with clubs from the top 5 leagues showing interest. If Celtic do end up losing the 18-year-old, it would be a major loss.
