Celtic were pretty active over the summer transfer window even if most fans were not happy that the club did not bring in any established and high-profile names. Instead, they continued to sign highly-rated youngsters with the potential to develop into key players at Parkhead. Let’s see if the strategy pays off or not.

It is worth pointing out that the likes of Jota, Kyogo, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Matt O’Riley and more were not high-profile signings either. But then, the Hoops are missing Ange Postecoglou’s eyes for talent at the moment.

Overall, Celtic signed nine new players over the summer. Still, there are a few positions where they seem light. Goalkeeper is one of them.

Joe Hart has been the number one for the past two seasons. And while he has a commendable job, his recent displays have raised eyebrows and many fans believe that the club need a new number one.

It looks like Celtic were looking to bring in a new goalkeeper this summer but just failed to pull it off. As reported by GIVEMESPORT, Anthony Joseph said:

"“Well, they’ve wanted to bring in a keeper who will challenge Hart for the number one spot this year. I think Hart has served Celtic very well for the last two years, but we’re starting to see his ageing process come now. Perhaps in the Champions League, he might get found out this season. They were looking for a goalkeeper to come straight in and be number one, but they’ve been unable to do that.”"

Of course, Celtic were heavily linked with a move for Dominik Livakovic, but that did not happen. There were also suggestions that the club could add a new goalkeeper to their ranks if Benjamin Siegrist left but he has stayed put at Parkhead for the time being.

To be honest, Hart did a fantastic job in the 1-0 away win at Ibrox and deserves a lot of credit for that performance. If he can keep playing like that, he might be more than good enough to remain the number one for another season.

He is 36 years of age and in the last season of his contract too. Thus, sooner or later, Celtic will need to bring in a long-term replacement for the English goalkeeper.
