When Celtic decided to bring back Brendan Rodgers to replace Ange Postecoglou in the Parkhead hot seat, the reaction of the fans was always going to be a major talking point. After all, the Northern Irishman had left a bitter taste in the mouths of many by leaving in the middle of the season to join Leicester City, the last time he was the manager of the Hoops.

Considering the circumstances and the past, many expected a lot of fans to be unhappy about the appointment of Rodgers again. But somewhat surprisingly, the majority of the fan reaction was positive.

Yes, nobody was happy with the manner of Rodgers’ exit the first time around. But at the same time, there appeared to be recognition that he was the best manager available.

Yet, Aiden McGeady has made an interesting claim recently about a section of the support. As reported by Football Scotland, he said:

"“I think you’ve got the hangover effect of a lot of fans from last season used to a different way of playing and then you have a lot of fans who were just waiting for that Kilmarnock defeat or a bad result to jump on the bandwagon of disliking him for leaving the first time.”"

Of course, there are always going to be some fans who are not happy with the manager. But at the same time, it is hard to imagine that many, if any, would want to see him fail or even struggle.

At the end of the day, he is the manager of Celtic Football Club. Him being successful means that the Hoops are winning as well. That is what every fan wants.

There was a cloud of negativity around the club after the first few results of the season but the win away at Ibrox has calmed a lot of people down for sure. Of course, it is important to build on that result and put together a string of good performances and wins.

On the other hand, it is the Rangers who find themselves in trouble. And Michael Beale’s days at Ibrox might be numbered.
