Celtic could do with another striker at this point in time. There were suggestions that the club were looking for one towards the end of the summer transfer window but an addition up top was not made. Luis Palma is capable of playing in a more central role as well though, so perhaps he could fill in if the need arises.
There is no doubt that Kyogo is the main man up top for Celtic. The Japanese forward has continued to deliver the goods, with his most recent goal getting them a 1-0 win away at Ibrox against the Rangers.
Oh Hyeon-gyu is the cover option there. The South Korean international is very highly-rated himself and recently returned from injury, in a boost for Brendan Rodgers’ team.
And Celtic have been suggested an out-of-the-box option to add another player up top. It is none other than Gary Hooper.
Celtic urged to bring back former striker on free transfer
Hooper is now 35 years of age. He is currently available as a free agent. He was tremendous during his three seasons at Parkhead though.
As reported by The Scottish Sun, Kevin Wilson said:
"“I know you look at Celtic, and the players they can bring in, but I wouldn’t be surprised with Gary.“Hoops could be a back-up player there and still score many goals for Celtic.“I don’t understand why anyone would question it. That’s my opinion.“Gary knows the club inside out and the fans absolutely love him.“It’s a no-brainer for me. He wouldn’t cost them anything, so yes!”"
Hooper certainly was brilliant during his time at Celtic. In his three seasons with the club, he scored 22, 29 and 31 goals respectively. Those are remarkable numbers, to say the least.
That was a decade ago though and a lot has changed since then. Hooper was never able to match those heroics after leaving Celtic. He has not been playing top-level European football for several years now and has had stints in India, Australia and Cyprus.
As a result, it would be a major surprise if Celtic actually considered a move for Hooper. The current team could do with a bit more experience but the club have mostly stuck to signing young players with high potential instead.
