It is a not great time for Rangers fans and former players like Kris Boyd. They have been defeated again by a Celtic side and Chris Sutton couldn’t resist a joke on the occasion. The Hoops had a team of past stars entering the revived Scottish Masters alongside the Ibrox club, Hibernian and Hearts at the Braehead Centre in Glasgow this weekend.

The tournament was contested in a series of round-robin six-a-side matches of eight minutes each way. Rolling substitutes helped ease the impact on the ageing squads. Football Scotland has details of all the matches and results.

Celtic’s eight-man squad was made up of Joe Ledley, as captain, Kris Commons, Gary Hooper, Simon Donnelly, Kelvin Wilson, Mark Burchill, Mark Wilson and Dorus de Vries in goal. Boyd featured for the Rangers side.

For Celtic fans, there was plenty of excitement and classic moments to enjoy. Notably a 3-2 win over the Rangers after being 1-2 down and it included a superb bottom corner of the net angled strike from Hooper against the old rivals.

Ledley took the side into a final against Hibernian and netted a goal for the Hoops. Two goals each from Hooper and Commons made them the star of the show and secured a 5-2 Celtic win and the Masters Trophy

Competing for the highlight of the night for Celtic fans was a very wayward shot on goal by Boyd. Sutton could not resist a joke on Twitter as he wrote:

"Closer than I thought from Boydy…"

Sure it’s only the Masters tournament and had the Hoops lost it would have been a fun evening where the results were unimportant. With it ending in another trophy win and a second win over a Rangers side in two weekends, it adds a bit more significance. And with a superb dig from Sutton in Boyd’s direction it will keep the Celtic fans smiling.
