Celtic are coming off an interesting summer transfer window. On one hand, the club made plenty of signings. Nine new players were brought in, seven on a permanent basis and two, Nat Phillips and Paulo Bernardo, on loan. But on the other hand, they did not bring in experienced and established names to Parkhead, something that most fans felt they needed to do if they were to compete in the Champions League.

It looks like there are certain positions on the pitch where they are a bit weak as well. Left-back and goalkeeper certainly fall under that category.

There had been suggestions that the club were looking to make additions in both those positions. Yet, nothing ended up materialising.

Will it end up hurting them in the long run? Only time shall tell. It appears that those were two priority targets for Celtic this summer though.

As reported by TBR Football, journalist Hugh MacDonald said on PLZ Soccer:

"“What they were looking for was a goalie and a left-back. They were definitely looking for a goalkeeper and a left-back.“Those were the priority positions. I know these were priority positions. And what did they not get? They didn’t get a goalie and they didn’t get a left back.”"

Joe Hart has faced a lot of criticism in recent times. But he must be given credit for the performance he put in at Ibrox against the Rangers last weekend.

Despite that, it does not feel like he is the right fit for this team and system. The Hoops were linked with a move for Dominik Livakovic but it led to nowhere.

On the other hand, the Hoops have a couple of left-backs in Greg Taylor and Alexandro Bernabei. Neither of them has had a great season till now and it remains to be seen if things change. Liam Scales can play there as well so maybe he could be an unexpected solution for Brendan Rodgers.

The mood is positive around Celtic Park right now, after the win at Ibrox. But a few bad results and questions will arise again about their summer transfer window.
