Rocco Vata is a player who has made quite the splash at the youth levels for Celtic. He has been in tremendous form for the B team and under ideal circumstances, one would hope to see him playing for the senior side very soon. But unfortunately, it looks like there are major doubts over his future at the club.

There are rumours that Vata is considering his options and might end up leaving soon. There was interest in his signature this summer as well and it was a surprise that Celtic did not let him leave.

Vata’s current contract runs out in the summer of 2024. That means that he will be free to sign a pre-contract agreement with another club from January. Hopefully, Celtic are able to convince him that Parkhead is the best place for his development before that.

Former Celtic player Frank McAvennie, who incidentally was a teammate of Rocco’s father Rudi Vata, has given his take on the matter. As reported by Football Insider, he said:

"“I played with Rudi, his dad, and he will be telling him he has got to play. He is now at the stage in his career where he has got to get minutes.“I would send him on loan but if he has to go away there is nothing wrong with that. He can go, make his name and come back to Celtic.“I just think he has got to play now, there is no point scoring goals in the B team.“He has not let anyone down at Celtic, he has been a great addition to the squad but I can see more players coming in now so he will be pushed down the pecking order.“"

Vata certainly appears to have the talent to make it at the top level for Celtic. In fact, it is curious why he has not been given more chances, especially with the Hoops’ lack of goals at the start of the campaign.

He has been superb for Celtic B lately. According to stats from Transfermarkt, Vata has scored 7 goals in 6 appearances for them this season till now.

Thus, if Vata does end up leaving Celtic, it would have to be considered as a major loss for the club. Hopefully, his situation will change over the coming weeks and months.

At the same time, he needs to be playing senior football at this stage of his career. So, it is not hard to see why he might be considering an exit.
