Celtic made nine additions over the course of the recently concluded summer transfer window. A lot of fans were not happy with the new arrivals though as the club mostly stuck to making ‘project’ signings rather than bringing in proven and experienced players who could make a positive impact on the team from the get-go.

The only signing from the summer who has previous top-level experience under his belt is Nat Phillips. He has been signed on a season-long loan from Liverpool and was a bit-part player at Anfield.

Thus, it is not hard to understand why many fans might be underwhelmed or disappointed. But at the same time, the club have brought in some highly-rated players, who could make an impact if they find their feet in Glasgow.

Luis Palma is one player who has arrived with a lot of expectations and many are viewing him as the replacement of Jota. In fact, he is already being tipped for a future exit.

As reported by Football Insider, Frank McAvennie said about Palma:

"“I like Palma, I think he is a wonderful talent and Brendan Rodgers is a really good coach so he will be able to get the best out of him.“Palma is a wonderful talent and I think he could maybe shine there.“He is one of these players that we will get three or four years out of him, and then he will move on.“"

Of course, any future move would depend on how Palma performs at Celtic. He might be viewed as a potential replacement for Jota, but when it comes to playing style, he is very different to the Portuguese winger.

He does not have the trickery, creativity or flashiness of Jota. But his game is based more on effectiveness and he can make a difference in the final third of the pitch. He is also a free-kick specialist, which would be a great option to have for Celtic.

For the time being, it remains to be seen how Palma does at Celtic. By no means is he someone who is guaranteed to be a success at Parkhead. And he will face some competition to get into the starting XI too.
