When Ange Postecoglou left Celtic in order to join Tottenham Hotspur just days after guiding the Hoops to a domestic treble, it was clearly a major blow for the club. The Australian was fantastic during his two seasons at Parkhead and won five trophies. Since leaving, he has already proven his mettle in London, as they sit at second in the Premier League table. This is a team that lost Harry Kane over the summer and many were predicting them to not even finish in the top 8.

Thus, Celtic clearly lost an incredible manager in the form of Postecoglou. Another concern that many fans had was the Australian potentially trying to sign some of his favourites from the Hoops.

That did not happen over the summer. In fact, it looks like Tottenham Hotspur were even offered the chance to sign Jota.

Jota left Celtic earlier in the summer in order to join Al-Ittihad. But things have not gone his way there and rumours suggest that an exit is a possibility already.

As reported by TEAMTALK, Graeme Bailey said while speaking on the Talking Transfers Podcast:

"“He’s a great signing I think myself.“It’s clear that Ange wanted this type of player and they were offered Jota as well who might be coming back from Saudi Arabia sometime soon.“I think Johnson is an incredible player who will become a firm fan favourite there.”"

Tottenham Hotspur would go on to sign a winger this summer but it was not Jota. Instead, they brought in Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest in a £47.5 million deal.

As for Postecoglou, he has already become a firm fan favourite at Tottenham Hotspur, most of whom were unamused when the appointment was made. But that has been the story of the Australian’s managerial career. He seems to thrive in places where he has a point to prove.

Even when he arrived at Celtic, there was no shortage of doubters. But by the point he left the club, it is safe to say that there no doubt that the club were losing a superb manager.
