It would be interesting to find out where James Tavernier ranks in terms of Rangers captains when it comes to his record against Celtic. The right-back was on the losing side in the Glasgow Derby once again, as the Hoops walked out of Ibrox with a 1-0 victory. Kyogo Furuhashi scored the winner on the day, a brilliant goal at that as well.
The result leaves the Rangers sitting four points behind Celtic after just four games, and they are fourth in the league table right now. Not the start that Michael Beale’s side would have been hoping for.
Celtic came into the Ibrox game as heavy underdogs. And after losing 5-1 to PSV in midweek, the Rangers’ fans would have been hoping for a statement performance in the Glasgow Derby.
That did not turn out to be the case. In fact, the Rangers could not find the back of the net against a Celtic team that has struggled to keep clean sheets this season and were missing a number of key defenders. Unsurprisingly, the Ibrox crowd decided to boo at full-time.
Tavernier reacts to Ibrox boos after losing to Celtic again
As reported by The Scotsman, Tavernier said about the Rangers fans’ reaction:
"“Well, it’s justified.“It’s as simple as that. We didn’t get the result the fans wanted and it’s totally justified.”"
He also seemed to be having a hard time understanding why things were not clicking on the pitch for the Rangers:
"“I can’t put a finger on it.“It’s just that final piece that we obviously have to work hard at. There’s a lot of new faces, but we just have to keep working hard and moving forward, fixing it.”"
It is safe to say that Celtic will be very happy with how things turned out on Sunday. This is exactly the result that they needed at this point in time and should help them move forward a lot after an underwhelming start to the campaign.
As for the Rangers, it looks like their fans have already made up their mind about the manager. That was evident from ‘#BealeOut’ trending on Twitter. Let’s see how long he remains in the Ibrox hot seat.
