Celtic pulled off a late loan move for Nat Phillips this summer and there are high expectations that the Liverpool centre-back will be able to improve the Hoops’ defence. He has not gotten a lot of chances with the Reds but when he has been on the pitch, he has not looked out of place in Jurgen Klopp’s team.
It looks like Brendan Rodgers has his eyes on another Liverpool player though. One who finds himself in a similar situation to Phillips at Anfield.
There were a lot of calls from the fans for Celtic to sign another goalkeeper this season. Many believe that Joe Hart is no longer the answer between the posts and his recent performances have been heavily criticised.
Celtic did not end up signing a goalkeeper this summer, to the disappointment of many. But it looks like Rodgers has his sights on a long-term solution between the posts.
Rodgers wants Celtic to sign another Liverpool player
As reported by The Scottish Sun, Rodgers has put Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher at the top of his Celtic wish list. The manager is in search of a long-term replacement for Hart and his sights are firmly on the Republic of Ireland international.
Interestingly, this is not the first time that Celtic have been linked with a move for the talented Liverpool goalkeeper. Nothing has materialised till now. Let’s see if things change in the future.
Kelleher has impressed whenever he has gotten the chance to play for Liverpool. But since his arrival in 2019, he has only managed to make a handful of appearances for the club and it is easy to see why.
Alisson Becker is one of the best in the world and is expected to remain Liverpool’s number one for years to come. So sooner or later, Kelleher is expected to leave. Could Celtic Park be the Republic of Ireland international’s next destination?
