Celtic fans were disappointed with the club’s transfer activity over the summer but one has to admit that they are starting to pick up the pace now. The signing of Luis Palma was officially announced recently, and the Honduran international arrives amidst a lot of expectations and is being viewed as the potential replacement for Jota.

Celtic are believed to be closing in on a loan deal for Paulo Bernardo as well. Rumours suggest that the Benfica midfielder is set to travel to Glasgow in order to finalise the move.

And now, it looks like the club are on the verge of signing another centre-back. It is also arguably their marquee addition of this window, as Nat Phillips is headed for Celtic on a loan deal.

As tweeted out by Anthony Joseph, Phillips has agreed terms on a loan deal with Celtic. It is understood that his situation will be reassessed in the January window. The Liverpool player is joining the Scottish champions to help ease their centre-back injury crisis.

What does the Liverpool defender add to this Celtic team?

Phillips came through the ranks at Bolton Wanderers but ended up joining Liverpool while he was still a teenager. He has played a decent bit of football for the Reds, even though most of it came at a time when Jurgen Klopp’s side were dealing with a series of injuries.

Phillips is a physical presence at the back, something that Celtic appear to lack at the moment, especially in the absence of Cameron Carter-Vickers. And when he got the chance to play for Liverpool, the Englishman did not look out of place in the Premier League.

Thus, Celtic are getting a Premier League-proven player here. Fans will definitely be happy if or when the deal gets over the line. And with the Rangers being knocked out of the Champions League qualifiers, the momentum might be starting to shift ahead of the trip to Ibrox.
