Celtic have announced the signings of Luis Palma and Nat Phillips. The Hoops need to make a few more additions before the summer transfer window slams shut though as there are a few positions on the pitch where they seem to be weak at the moment. One of them has to be left-back.
Greg Taylor was one of Celtic’s standout and most improved performers during the time of Ange Postecoglou as manager. There is no denying that he has seemed to struggle since the arrival of Brendan Rodgers. And one has to wonder whether his form was a matter of him fitting the Australian’s system perfectly.
On the other hand, Alexandro Bernabei has never managed to find his feet since arriving at Celtic last summer. In the process, he became the first Argentine player in the club’s history. Till now, he has not proven to be a good signing though.
Thus, Celtic could do with another left-back. And it looks like they have the chance to sign a Champions League winner for free.
Celtic offered chance to sign Champions League winner for free
As reported by the Daily Record, Ryan Bertrand has been offered to Celtic. And he is being considered as an option.
Bertrand is a Premier League-proven left-back. He even won the Champions League during his time at Chelsea, starting in the final against Bayern Munich as well.
But at the same time, it has to be considered that he is coming off of a long-term injury and has not played competitive football for a while. On top of that, he is 34 years of age. Thus, any move for the Englishman will come with a lot of risk. But it might very well be a risk worth taking at this point in time considering the situation that the Hoops find themselves in.
