Celtic appear to be very busy at the moment, as they look to strengthen their squad before the summer transfer window slams shut. They have left things late once again, and have paid the price by already being knocked out of the Scottish League Cup and dropping points in the league. Now though, they must make sure that they make the right additions.

There have been suggestions that Celtic could make as many as five more signings in the last few days of the summer transfer window. The first of them is already over the line although it has been anticipated for a while now.

As reported by the club’s official website, Celtic have announced the signing of Luis Palma. The Honduran international has joined on a five-year contract.

Palma played for Greek side, Aris FC, before this. It is believed that Celtic shelled out a transfer fee around £3.5 million to sign.

Palma is being viewed by most as the replacement for Jota, who left the club earlier in the summer in order to join Al-Ittihad. The Portuguese winger was a vital part of this team, who played an important role in winning five trophies over the past two seasons under the management of Ange Postecoglou.

Thus, Palma has some big boots to fill. And it is important to point out that he is a very different type of player to Jota.

Palma’s game is based more on effectiveness than on trickery and flair. He is a free-kick specialist as well and that would add a new element to this team. Something they have perhaps needed for a while now.

It remains to be seen how things turn out for Palma at Parkhead. We can only wish him the very best of luck for the future.
