Things seem to be picking up pace for Celtic in the last days of the summer transfer window. The club have left it late and it is not a great situation to be in. Now though, one can only hope that they are able to get deals over the line and bring in some quality players. The fans can take heart from the 2021 deadline day when they made the triple signing of Jota, Giorgos Giakoumakis and Cameron Carter-Vickers.
They would need something similar if they are to bring this season back on track. Right now, things are not looking good for Brendan Rodgers’ team.
They are already out of the Scottish League Cup and dropped a couple of points in the league to St Johnstone last weekend. To be very honest, they are looking like shells of the treble-winning team from the previous campaign.
It looks like Celtic are working hard to get deals done though. One of their targets will remind fans of their move for Jota a couple of summers back.
Sky Sports man drops late night news as Celtic in talks
As tweeted out by Anthony Joseph, Celtic are in talks with Benfica to sign Paulo Bernardo. It’s understood the negotiations are centred around a loan deal, with an option to buy.
Bernardo is 21 years of age and has not managed to find his feet at the senior level for Benfica. He spent the second half of last season out on loan.
Of course, Jota had been in a very similar situation when Celtic signed him from Benfica. And look at how things turned out for him.
Many fans will question the need for another midfielder when there are other positions in more urgent need of reinforcements. But considering Reo Hatate’s injury as well as his dip in form, it makes sense.
