It has become pretty clear over the last few days that Celtic are looking to add another striker to their ranks. Kyogo Furuhashi is a spectacular option to have but he can do it all alone, especially with Jota no longer around to carry some of the goalscoring burden with him. Oh Hyeon-gyu is out injured right now as well.
Amidst all this, it looks like the club are looking to sign another striker. There have been rumours that they have had a transfer bid for Mathias Kvistgaarden rejected already.
It remains to be seen whether Celtic will go back in with a bigger offer for the Danish youth international. At the same time, it looks like another striker is on their radar and he is the son of former club hero, Pierre van Hooijdonk.
As tweeted out by Anthony Joseph, Bologna striker Sydney van Hooijdonk is another player who has been on Celtic’s radar this summer. His future still remains uncertain.
Celtic interested in Dutch striker with 19 goals last season
Van Hooijkdonk is believed to be attracting interest from Wolfsburg as well and it is not hard to see why. He is coming off of an impressive 2022/23 campaign.
The Dutchman spent the previous season out on loan at Heerenveen. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 19 goals and provided an assist in 39 appearances in the 2022/23 campaign for the Dutch club.
Thus, Van Hooijdonk is someone who could be a solid addition to this Celtic team. At 23 years of age, he fits the club’s transfer policy but at the same time, he does have a bit of experience under his belt as well.
So, a move for Van Hooijdonk would make sense for Celtic. It remains to be seen if they are able to pull it off or not though.
