We are days away from the end of the summer transfer window. The time has simply flown by but Celtic still find themselves with a lot of work to do. Over the first four games of the season, it has become quite clear that this team is nowhere near good enough to be competing against Europe’s elite in the Champions League. In fact, they are struggling domestically as well.
Celtic won their opening two league games but looked far from convincing. Then they were knocked out of the Scottish League Cup in the second round itself, at the hands of Kilmarnock away at Rugby Park.
Fans would have been looking forward to a bounce-back performance this weekend. That never came. Instead, they dropped points at home by drawing 0-0 to a St Johnstone team that has not won a game this season till now.
Overall, this is not what Celtic fans would have envisioned when Brendan Rodgers’ was reappointed as manager. The Northern Irishman had not lost a single domestic competition the last time he was in the Parkhead hot seat.
Celtic handed transfer boost ahead of deadline day
Fortunately, it looks like there is going to be quite a bit of activity over the last few days of the transfer window. As tweeted out by Celticunderground, people inside the club are saying that they are looking at five signings by the deadline.
That would fit the rumours that have been doing the rounds over the last few days. Celtic are believed to be on the verge of signing Luis Palma. There are suggestions that they are also looking to strengthen at goalkeeper, left-back, centre-back and striker.
Of course, it is not just about making a number of signings. More importantly, it is about bringing in players who can come in and make an impact immediately.
