Celtic are expected to make quite a few signings over the last week of the summer transfer window. One of the areas where they clearly need to improve is left-back. Greg Taylor was outstanding there during the time of Ange Postecoglou as manager. He has not thrived under the management of Brendan Rodgers yet.
On the other hand, Alexandro Bernabei is yet to showcase enough at Celtic to be trusted as the starting left-back. He is very good going forward but does leave a lot to be desired on the defensive side of things.
As a result, Celtic could do with another left-back at the moment. Let’s see how things play out in that regard over the coming days.
One name doing the round of the rumour mill recently is Leif Davis. He is a 23-year-old left-back currently playing for Ipswich Town in the English Championship.
Celtic linked with Ipswich Town left-back with 14 assists last season
Davis is one of the key reasons Ipswich Town were able to win promotion to the Championship. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 3 goals and provided 14 assists in 43 League One appearances last season.
Davis has already gotten his first assist for the season in the Championship this time around. And it is very clear that he can affect a game in the final third of the pitch.
Davis came through the ranks at Leeds United and played a bit of football at the senior level for them as well. He was on loan at Bournemouth for a while too. And now finds himself at Ipswich Town.
Davis might not be proven at the highest level. But he certainly showed a lot of quality when given the chance by Ipswich Town. And as Matt O’Riley has shown already, if you are good enough, it does not matter what division you are playing in.
