Celtic appear to be very busy as we enter the final week of the summer transfer window. There have been suggestions that the club could make three to five signings over the coming days, and the first one of them does not seem to be far away. The Hoops needed to bring in another winger and it seems that they have got their man.
Luis Palma was heavily linked with a move to Ibrox earlier in the summer. But it looks like he will be headed to Parkhead instead.
As tweeted out by Giannis Chorianopoulous, Celtic are really close to signing Palma from Aris Thessaloniki. There is an agreement in principle between the clubs, €4.1 million fee plus some bonuses. The player’s contract is set to be €650,000 per season.
Palma looks set to be the third winger that Celtic have signed this summer after Marco Tilio and Yang Hyun-jun. He seems to be the most first-team-ready out of the three.
Who is Palma and what does he bring to the table for Celtic?
Palma is 23 years of age and currently plays for Greek club, Aris FC. He has also made a few appearances for the Honduras national team.
Palma has made a bright start to this campaign. And according to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 13 goals and provided 8 assists in 36 appearances last season.
Palma is one of the best players in the Greek top flight in the final third of the pitch, both in terms of goals and assists. The 23-year-old is a free-kick specialist as well. He won’t be bringing a lot to the table in terms of the defensive side of the game though.
Celtic will be hoping that Palma can come in and fill Jota’s void in the team. The Hoops seem to be missing his creative spark and magic right now.
