Eric Dier is one of the players that Celtic have been linked with in recent weeks. At first glance, the rumours seem far-fetched and a move to Parkhead seems pretty unlikely for the England international. But when you consider the circumstances, of both the player and the clubs, it might make a lot of sense.

On one hand, Dier is struggling to find a place for himself in Ange Postecoglou’s plans. As a result, he might need to leave Tottenham Hotspur if he wants to get regular playing time, especially with EURO 2024 coming up.

On the other hand, Celtic are in need of a centre-back right now. Cameron Carter-Vickers, Stephen Welsh, Maik Nawrocki and Yuki Kobayashi are all out injured. That leaves Liam Scales and Gustaf Lagerbielke as the only options there, with Tomoki Iwata capable of playing there as well.

Thus, signing Dier on a season-long loan would make a ton of sense for Celtic. And it would give the Tottenham Hotspur player a chance to showcase his qualities at the Champions League level as well as compete for some trophies. On paper, it might be the perfect match.

As reported by Football London, DIer would discuss a loan exit if the club is approached about one. And if Postecoglou does not feel that he will find his way back into the line-up.

Someone like Dier would be an excellent signing for Celtic. He has top-level experience, having played for Tottenham Hotspur for almost a decade.

On the other hand, he is still pretty much in the middle of his prime as well, at just 29 years of age. Now, it remains to be seen if Celtic are able to pull off a move for the England international or not. If they make a move at all.
