Celtic are facing an injury crisis just three games into the new season. Every match, something new seems to crop up. Cameron Carter-Vickers and Reo Hatate got injured against Aberdeen away at the Pittodrie Stadium. And Maik Nawrocki picked up an issue in the defeat to Kilmarnock away at Rugby Park.

Stephen Welsh ended up getting injured in training. The Scottish centre-back had signed a new four-year deal just recently but it will be some time before we see him back on the pitch, as he is set to undergo surgery.

Things are not looking good for the club. Especially with the first Glasgow Derby of the season to be played at Ibrox early next month. At this point, it looks like Rodgers will have no other choice but to name a weakened starting XI on the day.

There is some hope though that one of the injured defenders could recover in time to face the Rangers. Let’s see what happens.

Injured Celtic defender could return in time to face Rangers

As reported by the Daily Record, Nawrocki is now likely to be sidelined for a couple of weeks due to his hamstring injury. He could be touch and go for the game against Rangers at Ibrox, depending on how the centre-back responded to treatment.

It remains to be seen what Nawrocki manages to recover in time in order to take part in the upcoming Glasgow Derby. Celtic fans would certainly be hoping that he does. But at the same time, the club should not take a risk.

If there are any doubts about Nawrocki’s fitness ahead of the game, he should sit out. Celtic simply cannot afford a long-term injury at the moment. Of course, it will be very interesting to see how they respond to their injury crisis in the transfer market.
