Celtic are not in a good position right now to be very honest. It is not just about the fact that they were knocked out of the Scottish League Cup at the hands of Kilmarnock this early in the campaign. Winning a treble every season is not possible and fans will recognise that. Their biggest problem right now though is their long injury list.
One Celtic player after another has gone down injured at the start of the season. The likes of Cameron Carter-Vickers, Reo Hatate, Stephen Welsh and Maik Nawrocki all find themselves on the sidelines right now.
On the other hand, Alistair Johnston has not returned to action yet since undergoing surgery in the summer. All of them could end up missing the first Glasgow Derby of the season away at Ibrox next month.
Of course, a lot of fans have been unhappy with how the club have conducted their business in the summer transfer window. There have been no high-profile additions to the squad. In fact, the majority of the players who have been brought in are project signings. Could their plans change due to the injuries?
Celtic change transfer plans after recent injury blow
It is unclear whether Celtic will make any big additions over the final days of the summer transfer window. It does seem like one player, who was expected to leave, will be staying on though.
As reported by The Press & Journal, Celtic were looking for a transfer fee in excess of £1 million for Liam Scales. But they are now intent on holding on to him due to the injury to Welsh.
Welsh picked up an injury in training recently. He will need to undergo surgery and is expected to be out of action for 3-4 months. Also with Carter-Vickers and Nawrocki out on the sidelines, Scales is the likely candidate to partner Gustaf Lagerbielke in the heart of defence.
