Last month, Jota completed a move away from Celtic, joining Al-Ittihad in a £25 million deal. The Hoops might have pocketed a large transfer fee out of his exit but they have had a hard time filling the void left behind by the Portuguese winger. In his absence, the team seem to have lost a creative spark and do not seem like the well-oiled winning machine from the previous campaign.

On the other hand, things have not gone well for Jota at Al-Ittihad either. He does not seem to have found his feet at his new club.

There has been plenty of speculation about an exit already. And could a potential reunion with Celtic be on the cards in the future?

As reported by transfer specialist TopSkillsUK (via Daily Record), Jota has been ‘confirmed’ as leaving Al-Ittihad after just a month and a half there. It means he could earn the status of being a free agent.

Celtic have had a hard time finding a replacement for Jota. Who better to take up that role than the man himself?

Of course, it remains to be seen if the rumours are accurate. And if he does indeed end up becoming a free agent then there is not expected to be any lack of interest in his signature. The opportunity to sign a player like Jota for nothing does not come around often.

So, let’s see how things play out from here. This news will raise the hopes of Celtic fans though, that Jota could end up returning to Parkhead this summer itself.

That would be a much-needed boost to this team, who have looked like a shell of their treble-winning selves lately. In fact, the Hoops have already been knocked out of the Scottish League Cup.
