Celtic seem to be concentrating on signing highly-rated young players from all around the globe at the moment. They have already signed six of them this summer and continue to be linked with several others. It remains to be seen how things play out in that regard, with less than two weeks left in the transfer window.
One of the players that Celtic have been linked with in recent times is Tommy Doyle. He is a very highly-rated young midfielder from Manchester City, who has struggled to break into their midfield, like so many others in recent times.
A place like Celtic could be a good destination for someone like Doyle. But it seems that he prefers to remain in England instead.
He spent the previous season on loan at Sheffield United. And as reported by The Sun, Doyle hopes to rejoin Blades.
Celtic handed blow in race for Manchester City player
It remains to be seen whether a move to Sheffield United ends up happening for Doyle this summer or not. On the other hand, Celtic might need to move their sights elsewhere.
And to be very honest, there are other positions on the pitch where Celtic need to make additions more urgently than in midfield. They have not properly replaced Jota yet.
As a result, the club seem to be lacking a creative spark at the moment and seem to be all out of ideas just two weeks into the season. Hopefully, that will change as the campaign progresses.
Doyle is a fine prospect without a doubt. At this point in time, Celtic do not need to make another project signing though. Instead, they need to bring some established players to the club, who could come in and walk straight into the starting XI. Otherwise, we might be in for a long and tough season.
