Celtic have been linked with quite a few players as we head towards the end of the summer transfer window. As the result against Kilmarnock showed, with Brendan Rodgers’ side being knocked out of the Scottish League Cup in the second round itself, the club need to bring some quality in.

They have seen key players like Jota and Carl Starfelt leave. Aaron Mooy after the end of last season as well.

All three were very important to the team last season. Yet, the club have not gone out and signed a proper replacement for any of them. Yes, it is good to keep an eye on the future and sign highly-rated youngsters. But one cannot overlook the need for experience and proven quality.

Amidst all this, Kieran Tierney has been linked with a return to Celtic Park. He has been struggling to get into Mikel Arteta’s team in recent times. Could a move back to Parkhead be on the cards for him?

As reported by FourFourTwo, Arteta has denied suggestions that either Gabriel Magalhaes or Tierney could leave the club, as the Arsenal manager said:

"“There are not any plans on doing anything like it.”"

Thus, it looks like Arsenal have decided that Tierney will remain at the club. It is not hard to understand why either. Jurrien Timber suffered an ACL injury recently, which is expected to keep him out of action for most of the season if not all of it. Thus, it makes sense for them to keep the Scottish left-back.

Just like that, Celtic fans’ hopes of seeing Tierney back at Parkhead seem to be over. It was always unlikely to happen in the first place. The Hoops could not have signed the £30 million-rated left-back on a permanent basis anyway. A loan move was the only possible route back to Glasgow for the Scot.
